Engraved, Script, Charm or Minimal? How to Choose Custom Zipper Pulls

Engraved tab, script word, charm or minimal loop? Compare custom zipper pulls by look, logo method, zipper size and best use, and learn how to order them with your logo.

Four custom zipper pull styles: engraved logo tabs, script word pulls, charm pulls and minimal open-loop sliders

Short answer: choose an engraved metal tab for the clearest brand logo, a script word pull when your brand name is the design, a charm pull for playful or seasonal collections, and a minimal open-loop pull for small, clean bags and wallets. First check your zipper size (#3 or #5 for most bags), because the slider must match the zipper teeth.

The zipper pull is one of the few pieces of hardware a customer touches every time they open the bag, which makes it an easy place for your logo. This guide compares the zipper pull styles we make, with real details from our catalogue, so you can choose before sampling.

Quick picks
Logo you want read clearly: engraved tab.
Brand name as the design: script word pull.
Gift, beach or seasonal collections: charm pull.
Wallets, pouches and small bags: minimal open-loop pull.
Luggage and bags that should stay closed: lockable slider.

What is the difference between a zipper pull and a slider?

The slider is the body that runs along the zipper teeth and opens or closes them. The pull (also called a puller or tab) is the part you hold. Most custom pulls are supplied already joined to a slider, so you order them together. The slider has to match your zipper size, and the pull is where your design and logo go.

Which zipper size do I need?

Zipper sizes are given as a number such as #3 or #5; the bigger the number, the bigger the teeth. #3 is common on small pouches and wallets, and #5 on handbags, backpacks and jackets. Our charm pulls, for example, are made for both #3 and #5 zippers. Send us your zipper or its size and we match the slider on the sample.

When should you choose an engraved logo tab?

An engraved or embossed tab gives your logo a flat, readable surface, which is why it is the most popular choice for brands. Our logo zipper pulls are zinc alloy and come in gold, light gold, silver, gunmetal, rose gold and rainbow, with the logo engraved, embossed or filled with enamel colour.

When does a script word or charm pull work better?

Script word pulls

When your brand name or a short word is the design, the whole pull can be cut in that shape. Zinc alloy is die-cast, so it reproduces script lettering cleanly, and one design can be plated in several colours.

Charm pulls

Charm pulls carry a small figure on a ring: shells, starfish, whales, mermaids, crabs, palm trees and more. Ours fit #3 and #5 zippers and come in gold, silver, gunmetal, antique bronze and rainbow.

What about small, minimal or lockable pulls?

For wallets, pouches and small bags, a slim pull keeps the look clean. Our minimal open-loop pull is 22 x 8mm and weighs 1.5g, with a zinc alloy slider body and a stainless steel loop, in polished gold or silver.

If the bag should stay closed while carried, choose a lockable zipper slider that holds its position until the pull is lifted. For a harder-wearing tab, we also make stainless steel pull tabs with a PVD gold coating.
